Digital Capture of your art work

We use a 12 mega pixel DIGITAL CAMERA to capture a “virgin” digital file. This file then goes directly into the computer for its next stage     – color correction.

(Photographing art work using FILM has a 2 stage “loss”. Each generation of loss interferes with obtaining a perfect output. 1st, film has a color shift that affects the color balance. 2nd, the film must be scanned in order to digitize the information. Both steps increase loss of accurate information.)

Cleaning up your damaged art work & re-sizing the image

Before an image goes to the printer, it is visually gone over at 100% in Photoshop, checking to see if there are any changes to be made.

Once the image is “CLEAN”, the art work can be re-sized to fit the artists requirements. Artwork can be made larger and/or smaller than the original size. Some artists want an image to “fit” into a standard size matt but the original size of the artwork is not proportionate. We sit with the artist and “Visually” discuss the best way to meet the criteria. Sometimes it will be cropping a small portion of the image or stretching the image. All is approved by the artist before any printing is performed.

Saving your digital files to a CD

Your digital images can be saved to a CD for your personal use and also as a “back-up” of your images. These images can be used for your web site, cards and copyrighting. Please note – the digital files we generate are large .tiff files. If you intend to use them for copyrighting or your web site, the images need to be resized and re-saved as .jpg’s. We offer that service, if needed.

Stretching & Varnishing your Canvas Giclée Prints

After your image is printed on canvas, it needs to be varnished. The varnish we use is non-yellowing, non-cracking and has UV protection for the longevity of your print. The artist can take the canvas without being varnished and apply their own varnish. The artist can also “Hand Embellish” their Giclée print before or after the varnish is applied. Please note that we do not varnish any canvas prints after it has left the studio.

Perpetual Art offers 2 kinds of stretching. The first is the regular stretching with the staples showing on the sides. This approach is used when the artist will frame the Giclée print. The second choice is to have it gallery wrapped. This has the staples on the back side of the stretchers with the image showing along its back sides. This approach is used when the artist does not want to frame the Giclée print. This saves the artist money by not having to buy a frame. We offer a special technique to prepare the image for Gallery Wrap. This technique allows the whole image be printed, never loosing any of the image that wraps around the sides.

Paper /Canvas Choices

Perpetual Art helps each artist choose the best paper or canvas for each of their images. It is our pleasure to discuss and advise you on your final image out-put and how you want each image to be represented. All questions that the Artist asks are good questions!
